Heavenly Thai: Jatujak

I always found solace in good food. Not only it makes me full but I get to taste different dishes that open me to be more adventurous.
We recently tried Jatujak(Chatuchak) in MOA. I have been eyeing this restaurant for a long time and finally I get to taste it.
Jatujak the Restaurant serves Thai food with a Filipino touch. In Thailand there is a weekend market named Jatujak so maybe this is where the restaurant got its name.
The restaurant has thai products and stuffs used as decorative pieces. The food is delicious.

Curry Vegetable and Tofu
The curry is so good. You have the option make it mild or very hot.

Crispy Pork
The crispy pork really speaks for its name.
Tom Yum soup
So far, I think, the best tom yum soup.

I would definitely recommend this restaurant because of the superb food plus it’s not too pricey.

Long before the bubble milk tea craze started I was already a milk tea addict. My generation probably knows this tea store at the corner of Pedro Gil Street near Robinson’s Place Manila, Easyway. It is a store located near St. Paul, Manila. They serve blended ice drinks, milk teas and fruit juices with nago(nata de coco), sago and pudding. The last time I get to taste their tea was back in college. Some time ago, I saw this branch in Recto and out of excitement I bought one. Then slowly some branches disappeared and the rival of Easyway, which is still in the market today, suddenly became popular, Quickly. Like Easyway, Quickly serves the same type of drinks on their menu. Until now I wonder what happened to Easyway. I found one website about them but it has a different logo. Did they change it or is it the same store? That I don’t know.

Milk tea is a tea with a small amount of milk and today’s milk teas have gone bolder. Aside from pearls, you can also add many kinds of sinkers like pudding, nata, grass jelly, ice cream, cheese, coffee jelly and a lot more. There are way too many tea stores today. I haven’t really tried all of them, only the famous and the accessible ones.

Cha time

Cha time serves variety of drinks on their menu which is good. The stores that I have visited have a very nice interior. The motif is very cute and homey.

The store that I have visited looks normal to me. No special couches and tables.

Gong Cha

The ambiance is very similar to that of Serenitea, maybe because the stores I visited are all in the malls.

 Bubble tea

It has a restaurant type ambiance. The teas are slightly expensive than the other tea stores.

Not a good one in my opinion. For its quite expensive price I was expecting Gong cha, Serenitea or Cha Time level

 Happy Lemon

The store’s ambiance is okay. It’s above Serenite and Gong Cha’s ambiance. What I don’t like about the Greenhills branch is the dirty flooring.

Except for Teazzle I will definitely keep coming back to the mentioned tea stores. The choice would only be dependent on the accessibility and proximity to my location.

Mochiko Ice cream

Another  yummy dessert .

Mochi Ice Cream

Mochi is made from sweet rice, also known as glutinous rice. It has ice cream inside which I think is very innovative of the person who thought of the business. It comes in different flavours and my favourites are azuki and avocado. Each mochi ice cream costs Php 70. One needs to wait for about 2 minutes before eating the Mochiko because it’s still frozen and hard as a rock. Once thawed, it’s ready to be enjoyed

Mexican food is my all time comfort food. Nachos, burritos, quesadilla and the likes put smile on my face. We tried Ristras Mexican Restaurant in Taguig City
Ristras has a feel good ambiance. It’s a good after-office place where people can relax and enjoy their favourite Mexican dish. Their burrito is ssssoooooo yummmmmyyy . I’ve never been to Mexico, but having eaten their burrito makes me feel like I am in Mexico. The flavour of each ingredient will leave you craving for more each time you bite. It’s so flavourful and mouth-watering. Their tortilla is just fine. The serving is too big for me but I was able to finish it because it is really delicious

Meat to choose from

This is how they do your all time favourite burrito. The colour of each ingredient is so lovely and yummy at the same time.

We also ordered salad which is also very good.

Ristras is located at Fairways Tower Mckinley Road Taguig City

I grew up waiting for Santa during Christmas eve. I always hanged my medium size specially made Christmas sock before I sleep. When I was younger I wonder why Santa doesn’t give the wishes that have written on my letter to him.  Instead he will give me candies and money. Good enough but I was hoping Ill open more gifts. Aside from my birthday, Christmas is one of my favorite occasions. People busy shopping everywhere, midnight sales, bazaars, reunions and parties all happen during this time.  The happy mood of everyone is so contagious you just want to be happy yourself.  You also get to it a lot of food not normally served during ordinary day and of course I get to have my material wish list.

  1.  A real vacation by the beach( Palawan or Bora) – I think I badly need to take a break
  2. Nikon Camera – I love taking picture
  3. IPAD or IPHONE – need I say more. I need a space where I can store the pictures I took J
  4. LV Speedy 30 with strap – I am a self confessed bag and shoe addict and I need this one.
  5. Lyto Camera – again, I love taking picture

Unlike any other girls, I do not crave for anything sweet. There are only few sweet foods that I wish to eat every now and then. I like Maltesser’ crispy malt and the chocolate part are just minimal. Milkha yogurt is also good, it is a combination of yogurt and chocolate so it’s not too sweet. I love dairy queen’s chocolate chip and Mc Donald’s’ mc flurry. I am also intoxicated by Nathaniel’s buko pandan. I also happen to be in love with Estrel’ s Caramel cake.

The cake for me looks ordinary, it has no catchy and excessive design it only has a dainty   flower  which I think is simple and elegant.  Some people wouldn’t like it because it’s too simple. I heard people saying that it looks like a cheap cake from a nearby bakeshop.

I do not know when was the first time I get to taste Estrel’s caramel cake but I had a glimpsed of it again when I was with my previous employer back in 2009.   If I didn’t know Estrel’s before and you would ask me if I like caramel cake sure I would say NO, this is because I would think that the cake would be very sweet imagining the same caramel in mars chocolate and snickers. The caramel in Estrel’s cake is think a mixture  of caramel and custard. Which is I think a very good combination.

I love Estrel’s caramel cake. It is smooth, creamy, rich in flavor and not too sweet.  I think it complements well with the light and fluffy chiffon cake.  There is also a thin layer of caramel filling in the middle layer of the cake which adds additional flavor. The caramel which covers the entire cake has the right thickness. Also, the cake has no preservatives so you need to consume it within the day you purchased it.  It is also made to order, I think they have some stuffs for walk in clients but it is only good while it last. It is particularly difficult to order during holiday season because they bake limited quantity so I suggest you order super ahead of time.

The cakes of Estrel’s can only be bought in 54 Scout Tobias corner Scout Limbaga streets Barangay Laging Handa Quezon City. Living in Mandaluyong, Quezon City is quite far from me so I really have to fi nd an alternative. I stumble upon a site where they reviews different cakes and Costa brava caramel cake is among the cakes being reviewed.

I ordered Costa Brava caramel cake for the 1st month of  Dindy’s nephew. I called their number and ordered a 9×7 cake. All their cakes are pre ordered   and you have to pick it up at 12 Polaris street Belair Makati City.  I was so excited to taste it. The reviews made me expect that it taste like Estrel’s.

The caramel cake of Costa Brava  looks almost the same as Estrel’s except that the icing decoration and the flower is noticeably smaller. It sure taste like Estrel’s but lighter and less tasty.  The caramel which covers the entire cake is thinner compared to Estrel’s. It’s a nice alternative but for me it  still won’t replace Estrel’s caramel cake.

Enchanting Baler!!!

I always get excited whenever I hear people talk about out of town road trips and beaches.  Seeing unique things and eating famous delicacies are the first things that I want to do whenever I reach my destination.

It is not my first time to visit Baler, Aurora but it still excites me whenever friends invite me to go there.  Baler is a part of Aurora. It used to be a 10-hour drive from Manila but the recent development and construction made it easier for tourists to reach the place.  I think sports utility vehicle is the best ride in going to this place given the zigzag roads of Sierra Madre. But there is also an alternate route somewhere in Nueva Ecija.

During my last visit in Baler, my partner invited some of our friends to come with us. It was not difficult inviting them since they heard a lot of good things about the place.   We left Manila at around 6:00am which is a very bad idea.  EDSA traffic was already heavy during that time. I remember suggesting to leave Manila at around 12:00am to avoid heavy traffic and to get to see the sun shine while we were in the mountains of Sierra Madre.   Anyway, we were still on the road when lunch time came. Fortunately we had some packed lunch that we shared among us.  We ate beside rice fields along the empty street of Nueva Ecija.

It was mid-afternoon when we reached Sabang Beach in Baler Aurora, which is famous for surfers because of its unstoppable waves especially during the months of October to December. Summer attracts a lot of tourists to this beach and that day is among those days when you can hardly choose a spot to stay in.  Given this, we still soaked ourselves and felt the waves until we are told to stop. Lifeguards in Baler do not allow people to swim when it is already dark, the waves and the dark environment make it difficult for them to save people in case there will be accidents.

The next morning we made our way to the famous falls in Aurora, the Ditumabo Falls. From Baler proper, it is a 30-minute ride to San Luis, Aurora then 10 minutes drive on a rough road and then another 30 minutes of trekking. There is a spot where tourists can leave their cars.

There is no camp site in the area though some picnic hut is available about 200meters from the falls.  To reach the falls, you are to cross 4 rivers and walk on rough roads. On the day we went there, we got lucky because people there built bridges. The bridge they made is not that durable though, so if you are up to a more exciting trekking I suggest you cross the river without using the bridge. It is a tiring trek but the surrounding will surely make you feel relaxed.

Finally after the long trek, we spotted the falls. People in Aurora call it mother falls because it’s the biggest among all the falls around Aurora. The water is so cold, you would surely forget the amount of time you spent just to reach it. The huge flow of water is really relaxing.  Bringing of food is allowed in the area but you have to bring your trash as you leave the place. But there is no dry area on there so  I suggest to just leave your food in your car and eat there as soon as you get back.

After we got tired of playing with the water we headed back to where we left our car. On the way back are nice stone formations where photo addicts like us can pose. There are no decent tables and chairs in the area, since the place is not yet commercialized so we opted to sit on the stones beside the river. It is relaxing and it’s a good experience.

That day we also  headed for another one-hour drive to Dipaculao, Aurora.  The shore is covered with rocks. We decided not to swim and just let ourselves sit on the stones. The waves alone got us wet and it felt like the water is calling us to swim, but we didn’t give in to the temptation.

We headed back to Sabang beach again and allowed ourselves be carried by the waves. We had dinner and then had a drinking session on a bonfire in the shore of Sabang.

Our last day was spent in Dicasalarin beach, the place is said to be owned by Senator Angara. Tourists need a permit to be able to come and stay in the visitors’ area.

We drove for about an hour to go there. Our van had a hard time going up and down the mountains. The roads were steep and it is a one way street.  I think the road to Angara’s place is a private one so you wouldn’t get scared that there might be someone else on the other side that you would play Scissor-paper-and-stick with so you can decide who’ll take the cliff. Dicasalarin beach is a private resort. Most tourists come to this place from Sabang through a boat, but they cannot get inside Angara’s rest house.

The water is clean and the sand is white. What makes the place more exciting is that it has caves and a river that if you get tired of swimming you can go and explore the caves or just rest and sit beside the river.  The area is not spoiled and there are only few people around.

After lunch we headed back to Baler. Did I mention that our van had a hard time going up the mountain? We are supposed to walk our way up to spare the van from its difficult situation. Good thing a truck is going up that time so we did not waste our time and rode on the back of the truck. It feels like a roller coaster ride. It was an exciting and thrilling experience. Thank God there was someone going uphill because we realized that the way back is far.

We took a bath in our hotel room and had a good rest for a while. Our last stop was the century-old Balete tree in Ma. Aurora, Aurora. The tree is so huge but you can go all the way up. The branches inside the tree make it easier for people to climb from the inside. I didn’t get inside at first because it was scary but as soon as I entered it felt like I am just outside.

Except for Sabang beach most of the places in Aurora are not yet commercialized so you need to bring your own food going there. You can ask the cook from the hotel you checked in to cook something for you and pay them a minimal amount. There are rooms available for rent from an expensive to a very cheap one.  I love Baler’s unspoiled beauty.  The nearby towns also do not fail to enchant my nature loving soul.  It’s a place worth visiting and I am sure just like me you will also be charmed by its beauty.

Eat all you can: Yaki Mix

On my birthday this year, my dear surprised me with a lunch at Yaki Mix with my family.  I didn’t know she secretly called them. Surprises are not her thing so the gesture made me cry.

We had Eat-all-you can at Yaki Mix MOA. The restaurant is spacious, there are couches available for you to sit comfortably. The restaurant has  Chinese, Korean and Japanese dishes.  I personally loved their different kinds of meat. The installed griller on your table makes you feel like the food you are about to eat is healthy since it has no oil on it.

I wonder what it is that makes people like us different.

Is it because we do not conform to what the society expects from us.

Is it because it is simply and explicitly written that we were never created and thus we do not exist.

There is no human capability that I am incapable of doing.

There are no words that you can speak that I can’t.

Except that I go beyond what I know that would make me happy and that is to be ME.
